Assistive Technology

The Texas Technology Access Program was created in 1992 as the Texas Assistive Technology Partnership. Early on, the primary focus was on increasing access to assistive technology that gives people with disabilities more control over their immediate environments and enhanced ability to function independently.

In 2005, our current name was adopted to reflect our commitment to keep pace with the world in which people with disabilities must navigate.

With the specialized expertise, networks and resources, the Texas Technology Access Program is in a unique position to promote technology access for all. To capitalize on these assets, most of the programs and services are targeted at technology professionals, disability advocacy organizations, service providers, educators and others who have the most direct and individual contact with consumers.

Our services include:

• Information and advice to individuals and organizations about a wide range of assistive technology issues;

• Training and technical assistance to assistive technology professionals and others who help people with disabilities access and use technology;

• Assistance to policymakers at all levels of the service delivery system to assure technology access is incorporated into public policies for education, employment, community services and supports, health care and telecommunications, as required by laws such as the ADA and IDEA; and

• Statewide research on technology trends as well as consumer experience and satisfaction with technology access.
